Are Other Expos Your Real Competition?
Holding an expo can be a great way to promote commerce and turn a great profit. Depending upon the subject of you expo you may be limited as to when it can be held. For instance, a boat show may not be as popular during the middle of winter as it might be in early spring. When planning an expo you may want to consider whether other expos are being held at the time you are considering. Not that other expos are truly your competition, but, should there be crossover interest you may find yourself with less foot traffic.
Once you’ve found a proper date and time for your expo the majority of your time should be planning on how to promote your expo and attract visitors. Partnering up with a local charity and offering them a portion of the proceeds can often result in free publicity on TV and radio. Spreading the word about your expo to the local Chamber of Commerce and business networking groups may also increase attendance. Another way to promote is to have the exhibitors send the word out to their friends, family and past and current customers.
Once you have the word out it’s time to work on making the show memorable and useful. This way, when you host your next one, you’ll have a head start on success!
