<p>People are brand driven and they will gladly attend events for brands that they know, love, and trust. That is why this must be part of the overall marketing strategy of an event planner. How to attract the right end customer is directly related to the ability to attract the right vendors. Like sheep, some vendor-s customers follow them and in most cases support them. You need to know when the exhibits will be open and closed. You need to know directions that people will ask for, such as location of restrooms, access to snacks and drinks, etc. You obviously need to know about your product or service. You need to see a floor<span id="more-27"></span> plan of the booth availability and inquire about high traffic patterns, or where the coffee will be, because that will attract traffic by itself. Then locate adjacent to the coffee or on a corner near the entrance or exit. Never interact with potential customers out of desperation. If you are too hungry for a sale or appointment or whatever, it will show and be a dealbreaker. By the same token if you talk to somebody who has genuine interest in your product or service, do ask for that sale or appointment to follow up. And if that person is looking for something you do not have, refer them to somebody who can help.</p>

However, getting your start in event planning, if this is your career path of choice, can be a tricky endeavor. No university will offer a degree or master&#8217;s program in Event Planning, so in most instances it is necessary to go beyond the educational basics in order to build the necessary skills and knowledge base to effectively serve in such a capacity. Here are a few recommendations to guide the way<strong>Go to college</strong>  Just because there isn&#8217;t a set career path in terms of course of study doesn&#8217;t render a college degree any less vital to your success. Instead, choose a major in which discipline and organization are obvious, for example, accounting. Also, college provides a great platform to get involved and even coordinate events on a smaller scale. A great way to do this is to join a sorority or fraternity and hold an office. The social chair will learn the basics of planning parties while an alumni chair will coordinate events with schedules schedules and book accommodations for out of town visitors while the president or vice president will most likely handle yearly philanthropy efforts and oversee many moving parts towards calculated ends. It&#8217;s recommended to try at least 2 of these positions, if not more. If the Greek scene just isn&#8217;t for you, there are plenty of other organizations on campus that hold events throughout the year, not to mention campus wide volunteer and charity efforts most likely looking for student help.<span id="more-21"></span><strong>Shadow an event planner</strong>  Think of the type of events you want to plan and reach out to someone who currently does this for a living. Whether paid or unpaid, assisting this person with the day-to-day tasks of event planning will help you to see how things work first hand, down to the minute details an untrained novice might overlook. In time, perhaps this can turn into an entry level or associate position, especially if you choose to shadow a planner who owns his or her company, or at the very least, can lead to a good reference. It will also give you someone to ask for advice whenever uncertainties arise in your fledgling career and lay out a do&#8217;s and don&#8217;ts road map if at some point you decide to start your own event planning business.</p>

Finding similar locations within closer geographic proximity can help to make for a more convenient convention.
